ENERGY COMMISSION MEETS THE PRESS AND STAKEHOLDERS ON ELECTRICITY LEGISLATIVE INSTRUMENTS – L.I. 1816 ELECTRICITY SUPPLY AND DISTRIBUTION (TECHNICAL AND OPERTIONAL)RULES, 2005, L.I. 1935 ELECTRICITY SUPPLY AND DISTRIBUTION (STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE)REGULATIONS, 2008, L.I. 1937 ELECTRICITY REGULATIONS, 2008.
The Commission organized a Press and Stakeholders meeting on Wednesday 30th June, 2010 at Ellking Hotel, East Legon, Accra.
Present at the meeting were Stakeholders from GridCo, Volta River Authority (V.R.A.), Electricity Company of Ghana (E.C.G.), Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Energy Foundation, Public Service Workers Union.
Press representatives from Joy F.M., Radio Gold, Ghanaian times, Business & Financial Times among others were in attendance.
In his presentation, the Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, Dr. Alfred Ofosu-Ahenkorah said that the Commission will ensure compliance of the pieces of Legislation passed to ensure quality of service.
The Executive Secretary highlighted on L.I. 1816-Electricity Supply and Distribution (Technical and Operational) Rules 2005 and Electricity Supply and Distribution (Standards of Performance) Regulations, 2008. (L.I. 1935)
The Executive Secretary mentioned that plans were far advanced to install monitoring equipment to check the services provided by the utility companies. He also entreated consumers to use energy efficient end-use appliances in order to save energy.
The Executive Secretary hinted that legislation has been passed to ensure that refrigerators that find their way into the country were specifically designed for the sub-tropical and tropical countries and also satisfy the Ghanaian standards.
The public were therefore urged to look for the star-rated energy guide when buying new refrigerators.
